"great things start from small beginnings... "
each runner runs his own race. some run for fun. some run to win. some run for health. some run to give. ikaw, ano ang hinahabol mo?

i signed up for the 2012 21k milo marathon to join some of my friends who will be running their first full marathon. i hardly trained for the run because i chose to focus on learning how to swim.  so, for almost 6 months, it was more of swimming than running. but yes, i still pushed through with the signing up.

my phone started to make noise at 2:00 am on race day. it was my sign to wake up and prep up for the run. i started to have second thoughts of pushing. the urge of just staying with my bed and enjoy my sleep was too strong. my mind was telling me that since there was no training, it will be really foolish of me to continue. my phone alarmed a couple of times more.. at 2.30 am, i found myself getting up and proceed with the original plan.

i arrived at the mall of asia start up area an hour early before gunstart. my heart was on its usual cheer up mode as i started to see the green shades all around (pretty much the sight of dlsu color)... i was hearing myself say.. "God, i really love this color.."... then i started to hear the milo song again.. i really love that song.. its like potion to a goal and a dream...it was fun to be surrounded by many runners, and they are from all ages.. really a happy sight and emotion for me..

i never got to see my friends before gunstart.. but i didn't feel alone because the presence of all other runners were enough to keep me company.. then there it is, the signal that soon it will be run time.. :) then bang!!! the 21k runners are up on the road.

my mind was kinda worried that i wont get to the 10k cut off time.. but i just continued running.. i was praying for strength because i really want to reach the finish line..  i was actually happy that i met my personal target for the 10k mark... i started to worry for the remaining distance.. i rejoiced when rain started to pour in.. i was really praying for it because i feel better running in the rain.. the company of rain made me feel like i am supergirl.. :) as i reached the 15k mark, i found myself laughing.. i was just thinking how foolish i am for signing up for the run without really training for it.. i realized it was a crazy thing for me to do.. but then, there was no other way but to just keep running and push myself to more limits..

17k mark started to make things worst... my lower legs were starting to hurt big time.. i was thinking of stopping but i felt that i'll collapse if i stop.  so i decided to walk and run until i reached the finish line.

like any run that i do, whether meeting my target time or not, reaching the finish line is always an accomplishment for me. i was laughing after realizing that my time today was even longer than my first 21k run with two sprained ankles.  this only proved true that trainings are important in everything that we do.. (lol).. but then again, a finish line is always icing on the cake for people who love running but are not very good with it.. (lol)...

later i was joined by two of my friends who ran the 42k category. aldrin got himself a finisher's medal, while kuya rodel was not not able to meet the cut off time but still completed it anyway.  it was a rainy sunday race, but it was happiness to the heart.

it took me 3.12 hours to finish.. but it was 3.12 grueling but glorious and happy hours for me.

i first joined the milo fun run 3 years ago. running for milo is my way of sharing a little piece of myself to other kids. running for milo is making dreams one step closer to many children. running for milo means giving shoes out of hard work, determination, and generous hearts.

i run because it brings me closer to God.
i run to give.
i run to heal. (someday soon).
sa ngayon, iyon muna ang hinahabol ko.

runningHEALS

I am not a good runner, but I love doing it.. i love the rush it causes inside me.. the experience of sweating is like adding up time to my life’s hourglass.. and the sound of my breathing gives me that fire to push and go beyond my limits.

one of the first things I included in my bucketlist many years ago was to join a marathon.  I first joined the milo marathon in 2008.. for beginners like me, the 5k route felt like a full marathon already (im sure journeying james would not agree that 3k & 5k distances won’t make up the definition of a marathon)..  nonetheless, reaching the finish line was more than a great experience for me. 2009 Milo Marathon came and it was really fun to be running with via yang and Pilosopong Tasyo.  This time though, the finish line was not just a completion but a gift celebrated with people dear to me. i never saw myself running on a regular basis during those times, but I made sure I join if there were opportunities for it.

Until I decided to leave home and start a new life here in the metro.. I had no friends. Worst, I was like trapped in the past and in the memories of home.  Everything around me was lonely that I felt I needed to run non-stop to deviate myself from all the pain.  Aquaman advised me to start running.. and just keep running until it melts the negativities away.

Then I started to find comfort in every time I spent with running.. I was still alone but it started to fill me up in mysterious ways.  I was still lonely, but every finish line brought me to a different level of bliss. I then found myself joining more marathons.  I wasn’t into making my best time, rather, I just made sure I enjoyed each run I did. http://www.runningMYA

i consider my runs even more special because I get to take part with the causes they were made for.  Most, if not all runs are organized for a good cause. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone: I run and I help. Not to forget, I started to gain friends who were also into the sport which more or less allowed me to open my doors to building new friendships. it was becoming more like gifts given to me.

2012, I am happy that once again, ill be running my third milo marathon this july.  I am not actually too prepared for it, but just like any run that I do, ill do it for the cause and the happiness it shares with me.  I am really excited that this year’s milo marathon will mean more and more and more shoes for children who need one.  Just thinking of the happy faces of the children who would be receiving their shoes makes me want to cry happy tears while dancing around. I am just really thankful that there are so many generous souls ready to give their share.

I’m running the 21k distance and hopefully I complete it injury-free. It will be nearly two years now since I embraced running, and I am very happy to say that I have ran quite well.  I may not yet be whole right now, but I am definitely a lot better and stronger, in my heart, mind,  and spirit.

Running did not really teach me to forget what love is.  rather, it taught me to love more even if you are still broken.  i'll continue to run as i continue to heal.  because at the end of the day, just like reaching the finish line, letting go and moving on is not a sprint but a journey to be embraced.

Ako si MYAngligaw, at ito ang kwento ko. What’s your running story?

the ateneo center for educational development (aced) helps in uplifting public basic education in the country.  in their 15th year anniversary, a fun run was organized to raise money, support and awareness of the university's work toward public school development. particularly their feeding programs for public elementary schools.
i am really happy to start my sunday morning with the run... and happier to be with new running friends.. i am not yet so sure of my run-time but i am just glad i finished it after suffering two times from side stitches.. hai.. it still pisses me off that until now i haven't improve well on my breathing..
with arnel #5254 winning 3rd place for 5k category
with friends from the MIS dept and facilities management office
with voltaire winning 2nd place for 10k category
boys will always be boys.. going gaga over #allysaValdez
it also makes me proud to have friends who had their first run but at the same time bring home the crown.. it's always a wonderful feeling to see people do good in what they do... of course, hats off to rice queen, mommy D, ruppert, atty no case yet, & ms. tin (my hrmo team) for finishing the run.. i love the fact that i am not running alone anymore.. :) (although i feel that i will still run alone most of the time.. haha)...

first time runners...  finishing their first 3k.. yeyey!!
special race category... :)

then again, going back to the cause of the event, my heart celebrates that a lot of people came to join to help in the fund raising... knowing that there were a lot of generous hearts willing to help feed children to keep them in school is more than a blessing..
going wacky with the kids of quirino & bagong silangan elementary schools
young athletes today... olympians tomorrow.. :)
thank you Lord for generous hearts.. thank you for loving souls...
thank you Lord for a beautiful sunday run.. :)
as i would always pray, grant in me a loving and compassionate heart so that i may do things (even in my running) that would only give glory to your name and your kingdom..:)

..and i love you so... really.. :)

upwardBOUND

i promised myself that i will make 2012 a great year for me. i am more than glad that the month of january (as it marked the take off of the year) turned out to be a great one.  although the month also had me sick again and again, i am still happy that there were a lot of things i got to do which definitely merit an entry in my happiness jar.  we are now in mid february and a lot of things happening to me continue to amaze me.  for the past 2 years, february had been a low-will&spirit month for me. but right now, the month is turning to be like magic - - it's like time and chance is with me in the things i do and i still want to do. here's a run through of some of my 2012 take off.

my sabado padi's point.  everything was like cloud 9.. and as much as i want to say that it's a happy thing, it's also one of the crazy things i have ever done... crazy but (yah) i am smiling right now.. :)

paydayNomNomNom is turning to be a great food trip. my food adventure blog and journal had started and i am really enjoying every bit of it.  eating out with friends and preparing food for my sisters is like enjoying a bowl of your favorite soup on a stormy night.  my heart is full every time.

the binondoTour with my colleagues gave me the chance to explore another famous site in manila. although i have been to the place before, an arranged tour coupled with food tastings were two of a kind experience. and let me include, i am thankful for everyone at the office.. things aren't perfect, but i am starting to love where i am and who i am with right now.

i had my fist 5k run for this year. although sick during race day, i decided to push through for practical reasons.  it's i guess my longest time for a 5k distance run. nonetheless, i was able to run, and that's what matters to me.

and my date with the zambaleswaves?  the memories are now inside the happiness jar.. do i need to explain? :)

recently, i made a commitment to make this pool be the keeper of my heart.  with the help of my swim buddies, diligence, and will, i know that this will play a great value in turning this year ALL ABOUT NIKKI..

today is the month of february and with truly a grateful heart, i close my eyes and whisper to heaven "you know i needed all the strength for this month... and i am doing really awesome.. --"...

some people are  worth everything..
some even to die for..
guess what, i realized,
i am that kind of person too..
#beatThat.
really.

celebrating2011

i must admit that there was a lot of apprehensions and worries at the onset of my 2011.  being in the adjustment process brought by the big decisions in terms of career and transfer here in the metro was a struggle and at the same time a challenge.  not to mention, a little of the baggages from the past was still haunting me.

then again, God was (is) good.  i witnessed how heaven walked its way patiently during the entire year.  i experienced how the spirit of God allowed me to open myself up through little steps and through various encounters and opportunities.  everything just turned out to be gifts all on its own.  and as i saw the year come to an end, i also realized that i got much better. i knew i was stronger and ready for take off again.

there are countless blessings received that i will always be grateful for.  but i would also like to highlight some events that made the year extra special.  in no particular order of value, again thank you Lord for 2011.

this may appear like a cliche but my family (the wind beneath my wings) is my greatest gift for the year.  i really don't speak of them a lot but it is particularly this year that i got to feel their presence in a very special way.  the saying does runtrue that our families will never let us down.  i knew they know about my sadness and my struggles, but they allowed me to have things on my own pace.  i know how much they long to see my used-to-be-smiles, my signature laughs and my high energy for life, those i believe they also start to see one day at a time.  they're presence had been a gift to my healing soul and hopeful heart.

the year was also a fulfillment of my long-time dream to marvel sagada .  it was a dream come true to finally reach the destination and travel with via yang and bro.  the chance to breathe fresh and cold air was salt and pepper to my soul. (http://www.bagonglangit.blogspot.com/2011/04/summertime.html).

my birthday outreach (http://www.bagonglangit.blogspot.com/2011/05/beautifulsouls.html) was also a huge blessing to me. the chance to be accompanied by beautiful souls in sharing our time with the children of virlanie became a reminder that i am blessed in so many ways and that life (short or long) has still a lot in store for me.

bagongLANGIT.blogspot.com turned one year.  as i often say, the site was born to fill in the emptiness within.  he's become a twin, a bestfriend, and a counselor all in one.  in the countless times when i had my u-turns and relapse and in a number of times of my surprising zest and hopeful sighs, he's become the witness of it all.  MYAngligaw (though lost) still got to feel what home is and thus was never alone.

2011 is special because of my uaap season 74 experience.  to finally see basketball games coming to life was thrilling in every way.  i had the opportunity to watch the games with new and old friends.  weekends turned out to be vitamins to me.  and whether people believe it or not, this experience turned out to be comfort zones to me and allowed me to take off some of the layers of my fears and inhibitions.  i started to look into my care-free self again and imagined seeing myself soar the skies again.

myMVP (emmanMonfort) was a big factor for my happy september weekends. just watching him play basketball completed my days.  oh, i just love him to the bone. he calls the play. he passes the ball. admu scores (http://www.bagonglangit.blogspot.com/2011/09/mymvp.html.).  and yah, he reminds me of my happy heart too (http://www.bagonglangit.blogspot.com/2011/09/flashknows.html).

eat.pray.love.RUN.and love some more.  my running journey  also celebrated its first anniversvary (runningMYA).  just when i thought i will never have that patience to do long distance running, i was surprised of the desire to just run.  i admit that i decided to run as my form of deviating my thoughts and focusing my energy to something more productive.  but after realizing that it also provides me with a different kind of bliss, i also saw myself determined to push harder and work harder to achieve my goals.  i got the chance to run 11 marathons (1-3k, 1-10k, 9-5k).  each marathon with different sets of friends.  icing on the cake of course is the fulfillment of my 21k (half marathon) finish.  i am not a very good runner, but i know that my heart flies every tie i do it.  after all, it is good for my heart (literally and figuratively).

meet and greet the journeyingjames (http://journeyingjames.com/).  i am an avid fan of what he does and a follower of his blogs.  it was a pleasure to finally meet him during the  (camSur 2011 international marathon) last september.  it was fun sharing stories with him over dinner with friends from home.  truly an honor! :)

a piece of home at the metro is truly a blessing and happiness to me.  although time spent is limited, chit chats and meas shared turn out to be absolute fun and adventure.  their presence is a comfort that brings the warmth of home and family. and by home is also the inclusion of my most beloved bicolMoon turning  manilaMoon. :)

cherry on the top is the gift of time with  RuSs and Leigh.
cherry on the top is the gift of time with  RuSs and Leigh.
one thing i know, ill count this twice every time i'll count my 2011 blessings (http://www.bagonglangit.blogspot.com/2011/11/spellhappiness.html.) need i say more?

my adMu family. it may not show very well, but i have learned to love them as they are.  i may find a lot of differences from where i used to be, but these differences helped me get through each day and made me braver in my learning process.  it may not be the kind of team that i see, but heaven knows that each day with you was a chance to know myself more and discover hidden strengths. it is also with these discoveries that i also thank God for the new work assignment for 2012.  as i take on a new job (which is my dream job) i continue to beg you for the strength i will need to take on the new responsibilities.  yes! yes! i 'll push myself more to higher grounds!

my adNu. my home.  when i left home, i was scared of going back.  the idea of seeing everyone was a perfect way of witnessing a lonely heart.  it was indeed a big surprise that i felt my heart smiling, laughing and even releasing happy sighs when i spent time with them over the holidays.  i cannot say it's picture perfect, but i can say that it's a good start.

absolute foodie, here she is again. i started to turn on the stove and cook simple meals for myself and my sisters.  my eyes grew big when i realized i was cooking again.  i guess i was too surprised seeing myself in the kitchen again.  this is definitely a good sign. and i know i am better when i am ready to do desserts.  in time. in time. ref cake on the start up line!

my secret strength, theYellowGuy.  he's not your ordinary stress ball, he's like harry's wand or tinkerbell's dust. toxic and unfair days at the office end up with a smile at the sight of him.  he was also chanting for me to push to the finish line during my 21k dream.  and when some people think i am crazy, he smiles and agrees with me when i say no i am not, i am just a little unwell.  then i smile again.. just like magic. :)

i believe i tried and worked harder to turn my 2011 a better one for me.  as i acknowledge and embrace the truth that i am not 100% ok, i respected my personal space at the same time took baby steps of going out of my shell and breaking free from the sad zone.  i know that it may still take a little while, but with high hopes, i will make sure a stronger and better me will come to life.

finally seeing myself laughing my heart out.  my sister once told me that she misses the old me.  she said that she does not seem to see the same eyes that i used to have.  i know she is right.  maybe because i have not heard myself laugh so often anymore.  and this picture just sparkle a turning point as a start this 2012.  yes, i also miss my old self.  thank you free spirit and batang bubuwit for the captured moment.  i will take this with me in my back pack as i start this new year.  this will serve as my sticky-note that life is indeed short so i must choose to be happy.  that is the only option. so, how about a new profile pic for 2012?
